Trip to Selma, Alabama

Trip to Selma Jubilee Bridge Crossing

ICESC has witnessed several success stories through its IAAQLI-funded programs, particularly in fostering cultural awareness and academic achievement. One standout example is the transformative impact of the educational trip to Selma, Alabama, where students had the opportunity to walk across the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge and engage with civil rights leaders. In March 2024, 36 ICESC students and 11 parents went on a 3-day trip to Selma, Alabama. This experience not only deepened students' understanding of African American history, but also ignited their passion for social justice and community leadership. Students returned with a renewed sense of identity, increased self-esteem, and a commitment to becoming advocates for change in their own communities. Additionally, parents who accompanied the trip shared that they enjoyed learning and participating in the activities alongside their children, describing the experience as positive and enriching for both generations.
