Community Programs and Initiatives

ICESC programs and initatives consistently aim to foster a strong sense of self-esteem, personal development, and cultural awareness among students by providing enriched access to African and African American history. ICESC integrates African and African American history into its curriculum through storytelling, literature, and discussions that highlight the contributions and experiences of Black individuals and communities. Students are exposed to a variety of historical texts, biographies, and cultural artifacts that broaden their knowledge and appreciation of African and African American heritage. This has led to increased student participation and engagement in discussions about identity, history, and social justice.

Program activities include activities aimed at building cultural identity including genealogy projects, cultural storytelling, and interactive sessions with guest speakers who share their experiences and knowledge of African and African American history. Students have reported feeling more connected to their cultural heritage, which has positively impacted their self-esteem and confidence. These events and activities celebrate Black excellence and achievements to provide positive role models for students and emphasize the importance of perseverance, leadership, and community
